Mona’s maritime diary

A few words before … / Par početnih riječi…

Five days a week between the 17 October and 25 November 2016, I  have been publishing minimal entries (‘nano thoughts’) and poetry in prose from Mona’s maritime diary. Mona is a character I’ve invented for the purpose of this small experiment lasting for 40 days. My departing idea was to record and explore the meaning and the inevitable process of (human) separation. However, I hoped that by the end unexpected other meanings and ideas would emerge to the surface of the water. The one constraint I’ve placed myself is to return to the same place at various times of the day – the Thames bank at Cutty Sark Greenwich, except when I was out of town in which case I chose similar locations in the other two cities I was in, Paris and Zagreb. There is something uniquely interesting about the textures, the colours and the openness of this particular place and time I’ve chosen to conduct this project that made it especially conducive to writing, without any certainty that I would succeed. I hope, nevertheless, that my readers will accompany me on this initiatory journey of (Self-)discovery.
